Riyadh Al-Hakim: The Quran Preserves the Identity of the Islamic Nation

Professor of the Hawza, Sayyid Riyadh Saeed Al-Hakim, affirmed that the Holy Quran represents the eternal miracle of Islam and has preserved the identity of the Islamic nation throughout the ages, in addition to serving as an influential means of conveying its message and guidance to people. His remarks came during a speech delivered on the occasion of the launch of the International Quranic Week at the Holy Husayni Shrine, attended by the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, and the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Hassan Rashid Al-Abayji, with the participation of 30 countries.

Sayyid Riyadh Saeed Al-Hakim stated that "the Holy Quran plays fundamental roles in the life of the nation, the first of which is its status as the eternal miracle of Islam, distinguished by its continuity and permanence through the enduring nature of the Islamic message." He explained that "the second role lies in preserving the identity of the Islamic nation and protecting it from deviation and loss through the existence of a preserved and documented divine book that safeguards Islamic principles and constants across generations."

He noted that "the Holy Quran has contributed to preserving the fundamental doctrinal foundations of Muslims despite the passage of more than (14) centuries since the mission of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)," pointing out that "the existence of the Holy Quran has been a key factor in safeguarding, sustaining, and preserving Islamic identity."

He added that "the third role of the Holy Quran is its direct impact on hearts and emotions, as it is a book distinguished by eloquence, rhetoric, and a powerful style." He stressed that "attention to recitation and the improvement of Quranic reading and performance are closely linked to the Quran’s message and objectives in guiding society."

He continued by saying that "the narrations reported from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) have emphasized the importance of proper Quranic recitation due to its effect in conveying its meanings to people and strengthening a sense of humility and emotional connection to its message."

He further stated that "Quranic activities and events contribute to bringing Muslims together under the umbrella of the Holy Quran and strengthening the common values among them," noting that "such initiatives provide a unifying space for the Islamic nation despite differences in opinions and interpretations."

Al-Hakim praised "the efforts exerted by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine in the Quranic field, which have embodied the bond between the two weighty trusts, the Holy Quran and Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), and contribute to strengthening Quranic culture and serving the message of Islam."

It is worth noting that the International Quranic Week (the Fifth Karbala International Award) is being held at the Holy Husayni Shrine with broad Quranic participation from within Iraq and abroad. The event aims to promote Quranic culture and strengthen the presence of the Holy Quran in the life of society.
