Imam Hussain Holy Shrine Announces Continued Work on Autism Center Project in Basra

The Strategic Projects Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine announced that the Autism Treatment Center project in Basra Governorate, southern Iraq, has reached advanced stages of completion, with the overall progress standing at (88%).

Speaking to the official website, Engineer Mohammed Diaa Mohammed, Head of the department, said that “the engineering and technical teams of the Strategic Projects Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continue to work at an accelerated pace to complete the Autism Treatment Center project in Basra Governorate,” noting that “the project has entered the phase of internal and external finishing works, with the total completion rate reaching (88%).”

He explained that “the project is being constructed on a total land area of (5) dunams, with a built-up area of (10,060) square meters, distributed across (3) fully integrated floors.”

He added that “work has entered the stage of completing the external facades, which includes stone cladding and curtain wall systems, alongside the continued installation of (bordex) material for the exterior facades. This is taking place in parallel with the commencement of landscaping works and the development of front and rear gardens to create a comprehensive and healthy environment.”

He continued that “internal works have been fully completed, including secondary ceiling installations (gypsum board), floor and staircase finishes, as well as the installation of modern elevators,” noting that “teams are continuing work on interior painting and applying the final touches to the therapeutic swimming pool.”

He pointed out that “the project includes (26) educational classrooms, in addition to sensory therapy rooms, halls dedicated to social, psychological, and physical therapy, as well as a water pool and a simulated city designed to develop children’s skills. The center also features sports halls, art rooms, and specialized speech therapy rooms.”

He went on to say that “the project also comprises a five-a-side football field and a volleyball court, along with expansive green spaces and various health and service facilities distributed throughout the site, in a manner that meets the needs of children with autism and provides an integrated therapeutic environment.”

It is noteworthy that the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, in line with the directives of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority and its legal custodian, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, is implementing numerous service projects, particularly in the healthcare sector. It also works to provide specialized educational and rehabilitation services that have contributed to supporting children with autism and offering them an advanced therapeutic environment.
