The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine Introduces Advanced Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Technologies Inside Iraq

As part of efforts to develop health infrastructure and enhance the quality of medical services, the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Holy Imam Hussain Shrine announced the introduction of advanced medical technologies to serve patients within the holy province of Karbala.

The head of the Authority, Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, said in a statement to the official website that “the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has introduced advanced medical technologies to serve patients within the holy province of Karbala.”

He explained that “the Authority has provided a mobile PET Scan unit, the first of its kind in the Arab region, representing a major qualitative leap in the precise diagnosis of tumors and complex diseases. In addition, the latest-generation CyberKnife radiosurgery systems have been introduced, contributing to improved efficiency in cancer treatment and reducing the need for referrals abroad.”

He added that “the adoption of these advanced technologies comes within a comprehensive strategic vision aimed at localizing treatment within Iraq and providing advanced medical services in accordance with the latest international standards, under the supervision of specialized medical staff.”

He emphasized that “these services are offered with direct support from the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, stemming from its humanitarian and social responsibility, and in a manner that ensures access to advanced treatment for a wide segment of patients, particularly vulnerable groups, at subsidized costs that take into account citizens’ living conditions.”

He noted that “the Authority continues to implement its development programs, both in terms of medical technologies and the training of human resources, in line with the mission of the Holy Imam Hussain Shrine to serve humanity and preserve human dignity in healthcare.”

These steps come as part of an integrated approach adopted by the Holy Imam Hussain Shrine to advance the healthcare sector by investing in modern technologies and expanding specialized services. This approach contributes to strengthening national health security and underscores the Shrine’s role as a leading institution in providing advanced humanitarian medical care based on the highest professional standards, with human health and dignity at the forefront of its priorities.
