Al-Warith University records remarkable progress in the 2025 UI GreenMetric global sustainability ranking

Al-Warith University, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced a significant advancement in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking for sustainable institutions, rising by 142 places compared to the previous year.

Hussein Hamed Al-Mousawi, Head of the Media and Government Communication Department, told the official website that “Al-Warith University, belonging to the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, achieved a major leap in the 2025 UI GreenMetric global sustainability ranking by advancing 142 positions in a single year.”

According to the results, “the university ranked 293rd globally, compared to 435th in last year’s list, an achievement that reflects marked improvement in environmental sustainability indicators, resource management efficiency, and the development of green infrastructure across the campus.”

He added that “at the national level, the university placed 9th among 87 public and private Iraqi universities included in the ranking, and secured 4th place among private universities.”

Al-Mousawi noted that “this progress resulted from a series of measures adopted by the university in recent years, including upgrading energy systems, improving water and waste management, expanding green spaces, and enhancing educational and research programs aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The UI GreenMetric ranking is considered one of the world’s leading indicators for evaluating universities based on environmental sustainability, infrastructure quality, and environmentally supportive academic programs.
