Imam Hussain Shrine Holds Large-Scale Ceremony Honoring Children of Martyrs in Tal Afar

The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine organized a major initiative to honor the children of martyrs in the Tal Afar district, under the patronage of the Shrine’s legal custodian, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, in loyalty to the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in defense of Iraq.

Sheikh Khalil Al-Ulyaawi, the head of the department, stated that “the initiative included more than 600 male and female students from the families of martyrs,” affirming that “this tribute represents the least that can be offered in return for their tremendous sacrifices.”

He added that “the martyrs offered their very lives, the most precious possession a person has, in response to the fatwa of collective defense issued by the Supreme Religious Authority, represented by His Eminence Sayyid Al-Sistani,” citing his famous words: ‘We can never repay their rights… You are of the highest rank, and how we wish we had been with you to achieve a great victory.’

He emphasized that “without their sacrifices, Iraq would have been exposed to massacres and turned into piles of skulls,” noting that “the security the country enjoys today is the direct result of their pure blood.”

Al-Ulyaawi pointed out that “the ceremony included brief official speeches by the Tal Afar district administrator, Khalil Habash, and the district’s education director, Ali Mardan, both expressing their appreciation for this initiative and highlighting the esteemed place martyrs hold in the conscience of society.”

He explained that “such events embody the duty of loyalty to the blood of the martyrs, preserve their legacy within the national memory, and remind future generations of the greatness of the sacrifices from which we draw meanings of faith and steadfastness.”

He concluded by noting that “the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues to adopt humanitarian and social programs dedicated to supporting the families of martyrs in remembrance of their heroism.”
