The Bayina Center for Intellectual and Cultural Security, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, held its first Bayina Cultural Forum in conjunction with the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Al-Askariyain Shrine in Samarra. The event featured the official unveiling of the expanded, revised, and fully verified edition of the Encyclopedia of Documenting Al-Qaeda and ISIS Terrorism in Iraq, attended by leading researchers, specialists, and academic committees.
Sheikh Ali Al-Qarawi, Director of the Bayina Center said that “the forum marked the official release of the expanded, revised, and meticulously reviewed edition of the Encyclopedia of Documenting Al-Qaeda and ISIS Terrorism in Iraq, issued by the General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine after more than five years of work, with contributions from an elite group of researchers, specialists, and scientific and technical committees.”
He added that “the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has, over recent years, worked to document the terrorist crimes committed against the Iraqi people and their holy sites, including the bombing of the Al-Askariyain Shrine, to ensure historical accuracy and provide verified sources for scholars and researchers.”
Al-Qarawi explained that the encyclopedia consists of 50 volumes divided into five main sections, preceded by an extensive introduction outlining the participating committees, a scientific preface, and a collection of concise studies addressing the roots of terrorism, its geographical spread, ideology, armament, military and security strategies, and its economic impact at the local, regional, and international levels.
He noted that “the five sections include the media section, documentation section, heritage and destruction effects, psychological and educational impacts, and the literary section. A structural committee oversaw the arrangement of these sections and their chapters, while a specialized team of linguistic, religious, and academic reviewers ensured scientific, linguistic, and rhetorical accuracy. A technical design team contributed to completing the project’s scientific and artistic presentation.”
Al-Qarawi also pointed out that field teams faced significant challenges during the documentation process, including security risks in certain regions, the presence of explosive remnants of war, difficulties in obtaining rare documents, and harsh weather and terrain conditions.
He concluded by emphasizing that “the completion of this national project was made possible through the support and supervision of the administration of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, represented by the senior religious authority’s representative, the legal trustee, the Secretary-General and his deputy, alongside security, military, academic, and research institutions. The encyclopedia now stands as a historic record preserving national memory and honoring the sacrifices of Iraq’s heroes who heeded the call of the religious decree for defensive mobilization and achieved victory over one of the most brutal terrorist forces the world has ever seen.”
