Sayyeda Zainab Al-Kubra Eye Center Continues Free Retinal Injections for Hundreds of Patients Monthly

The Sayyeda Zainab Al-Kubra (peace be upon her) Surgical Specialized Eye Center, supported by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the continuation of its free advanced services for patients suffering from retinal hemorrhage, using the latest drug-based intraocular injection treatments.

Hussein Mohammed Al-Jaafari, Assistant Director of the Center and Head of the Pharmaceutical Technical Department, stated, “Each month, the Sayyeda Zainab Al-Kubra Eye Center performs between 600 and 800 injections using three modern types of medication, Avastin, Eylea, and Lucentis, all provided to patients at no cost.”

He explained that treatment requires monthly follow-ups, with each patient receiving between 10 and 15 doses depending on medical evaluation. The course typically begins with seven doses and continues under the supervision of a specialized medical committee, reaching a maximum of 14 doses. He noted, “There is no alternative treatment other than injections or surgical intervention.”

Al-Jaafari added that these procedures are carried out in a dedicated wing equipped with the latest medical devices. He emphasized that while the cost of a single injection in private hospitals ranges between 300,000 and 1,000,000 Iraqi dinars, excluding diagnostic tests and consultations, the center provides all services, including examinations, diagnoses, and tests, completely free of charge.

It is worth mentioning that the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, under the guidance of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, continues to support low-income families and underprivileged groups by establishing specialized medical centers. These facilities provide state-of-the-art treatments free of charge, at standards comparable to leading international hospitals.
