The Shrine announced spending (500M IQD) to perform surgical operations and provide humanitarian and medical services to citizens from various Iraqi governorates during February 2023. The General Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs at the Shrine, Ahmed Reda Al-Khafaji, said in an interview, "Based on the direct guidance of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalai, we received hundreds of humanitarian cases and appeals through Social Media and inside the Shrine, noting that they got immediate help." He added, "Over (300) patients' cases were responded to from various Iraqi governorates. The services included performing major and supra-major surgeries at the Imam Zain el-Abidine Specialized Hospital, besides al-Warith International Foundation for Oncology, Sheikh al-Wa'ely foundation, and al-Safeer Specialized Hospital. He noted the Shrine took care of all medical services (for free)."
