Oct 14, 2015, a stately ceremony was held to declare the beginning of the month of sorrow (Muharram) in which Imam Hussein son of Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib had been martyred.
The ceremony was attended by many of the followers of Ahlul-Bayet (Peace Be Upon Them). It began with reciting holy verses of the Noble Quran, followed by a speech delivered by the president of the Shia Endowment Bureau in which he said:
Today, we are replacing the red banner of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine with the black banner of sorrow. And, still, Imam Hussein’s blood is boiling over into the hearts of the adorers of Ahlul-Bayet (Peace Be Upon Them) like the blood of JOHN son of Zechariah (Peace Be Upon Them); the blood that seeks revenge for the wronged from the unjust. That revenge has been boiling over into the heart of the Awaited Imam El-Mehdi (May Allah Hasten His Reappearance) for more than a thousand of years.
Sheikh Abdul-Mehdi El-Kerbala’e, Secretary-General of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, delivered a speech in which he said:
Angels of Heaven, our Prophet Mohammed (Allah’s Peace & Blessings Be Upon Him & His Pure Lineage), and everything in this universe cried over Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him) when he was born, and why shouldn’t we cry over him every year as Gabriel who would descend to the Messenger of Allah every year to pre-offer him and his holy daughter, Lady Fatima (Peace Be Upon Them) his condolences on the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him). Therefore, those who cry and commemorate this tragic event are the promising ones to the Prophet Mohammed and his daughter, Lady Fatima (Allah’s Peace & Blessings Be Upon Them & Their Pure Lineage).
His Eminence also mentioned that the heroic events the paramilitaries have been performing in the battle fields against the terrorist ISIS are motivated and originated from the principles and Islamic values of Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him).
