Imam Zain Al-Abidin (PBUH) Hospital, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, announced the successful completion of a delicate and complex surgical procedure on a 28-day-old Afghan infant suffering from a rare congenital skull deformity. The condition had caused brain tissue and meningeal sac contents to protrude outside the head, forming a massive swelling roughly the size of her own head. The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine covered all medical expenses in full.
In a statement provided to the "Official Website," the hospital noted that the immense size of the swelling and the infant's young age presented an extraordinary challenge for the medical team, given the high risks associated with anesthesia and surgery in newborns. This required exceptional levels of precision and specialized expertise to handle the critical condition.
The hospital explained that the surgical procedure involved intricate stages, including the excision of damaged tissue, reconstruction of the meningeal sac, repair of the skull edges, and ultimately skin closure. It pointed out that the intervention concluded successfully while preserving the infant's vital functions.
The statement added that covering the full costs of the procedure came under the guidance and patronage of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, as part of its ongoing humanitarian initiatives to support rare and critical medical cases and provide specialized healthcare to patients from both inside and outside Iraq.
This success is part of the medical and humanitarian efforts undertaken by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to deliver specialized treatment services and deploy medical capabilities and skilled personnel to rescue critical cases, thereby enhancing treatment prospects for patients in need of precise surgical interventions.
