Technical and engineering personnel in the Maintenance Department at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine have commenced implementation work on the "Third Al-Haramain Water Plant" project in the Al-Bubiyat area, pursuant to the directives of the Representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, aiming to boost the water supply system and address current supply shortages, particularly in the Old City and areas adjacent to the Holy Shrine.
The Head of the Department, Engineer Abdul Hassan Mohammad Mazloom, stated that "technical and engineering crews have begun work on the Third Al-Haramain Water Plant project, which is considered one of the crucial service projects aimed at supporting the water grid in the holy city of Karbala and securing the needs of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, the Old City, and Hussaini processions and bodies."
He added that "the project is being executed in accordance with the instructions of His Eminence, the Chief Official of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, and within a comprehensive plan to upgrade water projects and elevate supply efficiency to match the growing demands of the city, especially during religious visits and occasions that witness the arrival of millions of pilgrims."
He explained that "the Third Al-Haramain Water Plant will contribute to boosting the quantities of water supplied to Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, the Old City, the alleys, and regions near the Holy Shrine, as well as supporting the Hussaini processions and bodies deployed throughout the city, thereby raising the level of services provided to visitors during million-strong pilgrimages."
He noted that "among the project's most prominent objectives are addressing the current shortfall in water supply, alleviating pressure on the existing distribution network, and improving the capability to deliver water more consistently and stably, particularly during peak times that see a massive surge in water demand."
He pointed out that "the project's scope involves preparing the required infrastructure for the water plant system and laying lines and associated networks according to approved technical specifications, with field monitoring of the implementation phases conducted by the engineering and technical staff in the Maintenance Department until it is commissioned into service to back the current system."
He emphasized that "the project falls within a series of service initiatives undertaken by Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to provide sustainable infrastructure capable of accommodating the vast increase in visitor numbers," highlighting that "preparations for the blessed Arbaeen pilgrimage represent a primary priority in completing service projects that help improve the level of services extended to pilgrims and local residents."
