The Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the scale of the financial support provided to Al-Sibtain University for Medical Sciences to cover operational expenses and ensure the continuation of high-quality education while maintaining the university's distinguished academic standards.
Speaking to the official website, the Head of the Health and Medical Education Authority, Dr. Haider Hamza Al-Abadi, said, "This support, amounting to (2) billion Iraqi dinars, comes under the direct guidance of the Representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, and reflects the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine's vision of supporting well-established educational projects. The university was not founded as an investment or commercial venture, but rather to provide an advanced academic medical model that is the first of its kind in Iraq."
He explained that "the university follows a limited and carefully managed admissions policy that aligns with the requirements of clinical education and provides students with direct training opportunities at the teaching hospitals affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine. As a result, operational costs exceed generated revenues, prompting the Shrine to cover this financial shortfall to ensure the sustainability of the educational process."
He added that "Al-Sibtain University for Medical Sciences serves as the international branch of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, which is ranked within the (300–400) range in the Shanghai Global University Rankings. This requires the provision of an advanced educational environment, state-of-the-art laboratories and medical technologies, as well as the recruitment of highly qualified teaching staff to preserve this academic standard."
The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues to support strategic educational and medical projects as part of its mission to advance the education and healthcare sectors and to provide an advanced academic environment that contributes to preparing qualified medical professionals in accordance with international standards, ultimately enhancing the quality of healthcare and education services in Iraq.
