The Engineering and Technical Projects Department of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced that work is continuing on the Al-Sibt Hospital for Gastrointestinal Diseases and Liver Transplantation, the first hospital of its kind in Karbala Governorate.
In a statement obtained by the official website, the department said that "under the direct guidance of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, the Engineering and Technical Projects Department continues work on the Al-Sibt Hospital for Gastrointestinal Diseases and Liver Transplantation, which is the first of its kind in Karbala Governorate," noting that "the project has reached advanced stages of completion."
The statement explained that "the hospital is being built on a land area of (2500) m2 with a capacity of (100) beds. It includes (6) operating theaters, of which (4) are dedicated to liver transplant procedures, in addition to two theaters for other surgical operations."
It added that "the project incorporates the latest medical technologies, including the use of surgical robots for performing delicate operations, representing a major advancement in Iraq due to the high level of precision they provide, the reduction of complications, and the acceleration of patient recovery, thereby enhancing the specialized healthcare services the hospital will offer."
The statement noted that "the project consists of (3) main buildings. Building (A) has a total area of approximately (5200) m2 and comprises (4) floors, Building (B) covers approximately (6300) m2 across (9) floors, while Building (C) has an area of (2800) m2 and consists of (7) floors."
It further stated that "the hospital includes multiple specialized departments, including operating theaters, an intensive care unit, an endoscopy department, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in addition to several supporting medical departments that will contribute to providing advanced healthcare services to citizens."
The statement noted that the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine continues to implement its long-term vision for developing the healthcare sector by establishing specialized hospitals and medical centers, many of which provide treatment free of charge or at subsidized costs, with the aim of easing patients' suffering and reducing the need to travel outside Iraq for medical treatment.
