The Maintenance Department of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the completion of all service and organizational preparations for the arrival of the holy month of Muharram (2026 AD – 1448 AH), aimed at creating suitable conditions for the millions of mourners and visitors arriving from within Iraq and abroad.
Speaking to the official website, the head of the Maintenance Department, Engineer Abdul Hassan Mohammed, said that "the Maintenance Department staff, in cooperation with all other departments of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, have completed all preparations for the arrival of the holy month of Muharram, under the direction of the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalaei, and the Secretary-General, Hassan Rashid Jawad Al-Abayji."
He explained that "among the completed preparations are those related to the ceremony for replacing the banner of the dome of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), including the preparation of the main platform and ceremony site, as well as logistical support for media coverage in cooperation with the Media Department, Karbala Satellite Channel, and other broadcasters to transmit the event live."
He added that "the service plans took into account the noticeable rise in temperatures during the first ten days of Muharram," stressing that "sufficient quantities of ice have been prepared, water purification stations have been activated, and water supplies have been secured in coordination and cooperation with the Cooling Division to provide suitable conditions that ensure the comfort of visitors and mourners throughout the mourning period."
He noted that "the department’s staff began preparations early by preparing gates and installing iron barriers to facilitate movement within the Holy Husayni Shrine," explaining that "these plans are the result of intensive meetings carefully designed to avoid any obstacles and maintain the smooth flow of visitors, as has been the practice in previous years."
The Maintenance Department of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, along with all of its units, has mobilized its full technical and service capabilities in coordination with the other departments in preparation for the holy month of Muharram, the ceremony to replace the banner of the dome of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), and the Tuwairij Run mourning procession.
