The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has secured first place in the “Athar” Award for the Sustainable University Initiative, which aims to promote the implementation of sustainable development goals across Iraqi universities. The university achieved this distinction among 59 public and private universities that participated in the competition.
The university’s Director of Media and Government Communication, Mr. Hussein Hamed Al-Moussawi, told the official website that, “The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa, affiliated with the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, earned first place in the ‘Athar’ Award for the Sustainable University Initiative, designed to strengthen the application of sustainable development goals within Iraqi universities. This recognition came among 59 participating public and private universities.”
He added that “the university’s president, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hayawi, received the award during a ceremony held in the capital, Baghdad, attended by Minister of Environment Dr. Haval Al-Askari, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Haider Abd Dhahad, along with a distinguished group of academics, researchers, environmental experts, and university presidents.”
Al-Moussawi explained that “winning first place reflects the university’s firm commitment to achieving sustainable development standards within its academic environment through green projects, awareness initiatives, and practical programs that contribute to fostering comprehensive environmental and social awareness among students and faculty.”
He added that “the university operates under a developmental vision inspired by the guidance of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, positioning higher education as an active pillar in serving humanity and society by integrating sustainability principles into curricula, infrastructure, and community activities.”
This recognition honors the efforts of the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa in implementing environmental, educational, and social sustainability standards within its campus—crowning its ongoing journey toward achieving sustainable development goals and reinforcing its pioneering role in the national academic landscape.
