The Secretariat-General of the Imam Hussain Shrine has confirmed that work is underway on building the Zainebian Mound Sanctuary.
Hussain Ridha Mehdi, an engineer, said, “The service area of the sanctuary, which is 36,000m2, has been finished,” noting that the area includes a hospitality suite, 600 lavatories, and the Zainebian bazaar.
Mehdi added that the sanctuary also includes educational centers, such as a library, a museum, in addition to the mound on which Lady Zaineb (Peace Be Upon Her) stood on the Day of Ashura.
A 250m2 tunnel will be used for vehicles, especially the service vehicles of the Imam Hussain Shrine that transfer pilgrims during grand pilgrimages, indicated Mehdi.
He also said that in compliance with the directives of the custodian of the Imam Hussain Shrine, sheikh Abdul-Mehdi Elkerbela’i, the tunnel and the sanctuary will be open during the coming month of Muharram.
Mehdi confirmed that the gross area of the Zainebian Mound Sanctuary is more than 50,000m2 and the time required to finish the sanctuary is 4 years.
