Fatimah's (Peace Be Upon Her) grave concealment: enigma and reasons

It is a heartfelt agony to stand in reverence, reciting, “Peace Be Upon You, O veracious, the martyr. Peace Be Upon You, O self-contented you are, and the one Allah contented” without touching the lattice-enclosed tomb of theirs or to smell the scent smelled in other holy shrines in Iraq.

In such rare situations, millions of people would intend to pray that may Allah's blessings and peace be upon Fatimah Ez-Zehra', daughter of the Prophet Mohammed (Allah's Blessings and Peace Be Upon Them and Their Pure Family), and send their sincere greetings to her divinely pure soul; for they are unable to find where her sacred grave is, because it was concealed according to her will.

There are a number of questions raided by the followers and the faithful Muslim adorers of the Ahlul-Bayet (Peace Be Upon Them) why Fatimah Ez-Zehra's grave was concealed.

The Ideological Research Center answers such questions:

Fatima (Peace Be Upon Her) entrusted the concealment of her grave to her husband, the Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him). It was reported that Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him) said:

When Fatima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, Mohammed, (Allah’s Blessings and Peace Be Upon Him and His Pure Family) fell sick, she asked Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) not to tell anyone that she was sick. He did that and he and Asma’, daughter of Umais, took a good care of her while she was sick. Fatima (Peace Be Upon Her) gave her will to Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) which implied that Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) should take care of her death, inter her holy body at night, and conceal her grave where no-one could find her. Accordingly, Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) did exactly what he was entrusted with.

 2. Purpose of burying her secretly:

A. Some narrations said that there was wisdom behind concealing her grave:

Ibn Nebateh narrated that the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) had been asked about the concealment of Fatima’s grave. Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) said: “She was indignant at some people whose attendance at her funeral she detested, and it was divinely prohibited for those people's leader to prayer for anyone of her sons."

B. Ibn Albata’ini reported that his father said:

I asked Abi Abdel-Lah (Peace Be Upon Him) about the reason of burying Fatima’s (Peace Be Upon Her) holy body at night, and not during the daylight? He said, Because she asked that the two Arab men would not pray for her.”
