Kerbala International Airport is to be built

Imam Hussein Holy Shrine has signed a contract with a British construction company called Couberjais and an Iraqi construction company called Er-Ridha to build Kerbala International Airport.

The purpose behind building an airport is to facilitate the coming of pilgrims who come, from all over the world, to make a pilgrimage to Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him).

The chief engineer of the imam Hussein Holy Shrine said that the capacity of the airport is more than 2 million persons, and the time to achieve the project is 18 months. ADBI French Company has completed the design of the airport; the runway will be the longest one among all the airports in Iraq.

The airport will also be a great asset for the economy of the holy city of Kerbala and other middle cities of Iraq where manpower is greatly employed.
