Saturday 24 Oct 2015, the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine witnessed a procession, demonstrating what the family of Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Them) had done after Imam Hussein; his brother El-Abbas; and his companions had been martyred in Kerbala, and what had happened to them.
The adorers of Ahlul-Bayet (Peace Be Upon Them) commemorated the night of the day on which Imam Hussein, his brother; El-Abbas, some of his family, and his companions had been killed –(rituals: to pass a night awake with reciting verses of the Noble Quran with lit-up candles when one has passed away because a deceased one feels lonely on the first night in his grave).
Most of the commemorators were women and children, expressing sorrow for the incomparably tragic event, weeping for the family of Imam Hussein who could not see Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him) ever since, and for being taken as captives by the Army of Yezeed.
The tenth night which coincides with Imam Hussein’s martyrdom has been being commemorated every year ever since Imam Hussein was slaughtered. So sad and tragic an atmosphere that prevails everything where commemorators walk from the El-Abbas Holy Shrine to the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, carrying candles around the places where Imam Hussein, some of his siblings, and companions had been murdered.
Children carrying glasses full of water taken from the Euphrates River, embodying as if they quench the thirst of Imam Hussein and his companions who passed away thirsty; such rituals are held to express sorrow and to deliver, to the entire world, the brutality of Yezeed and his army who deprived Imam Hussein and his family of water for three days, spent in the desert in a very hot summer.
