The Secretary-General of the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine Sheikh Abdul-Mehdi El-Kerbala'i welcomed a delegation from the United Nations' International Organization for Migration to discuss the issue of the displaced citizens who took refuge in Kerbala City. His Eminence stated, during his meeting with UN representative Thomas Wayf, that Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him) inspired humanity to stand alongside the oppressed despite their ethnicity or race. For instance, Mahatma Gandhi, a civil rights leader said: "I learnt from Hussein how to achieve victory while being oppressed.", as well as the millions of people across the world are inspired by Imam Hussein's selflessness, courage, and determination. El-Kerbala'i indicated that Kerbala has welcomed refugees from various cities of Iraq, and is ready to welcome all the oppressed from around the world. Due to the fact that Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him) stood up for the oppressed and lifted the banner of humanity. For this reason, El-Kerbala'i requested from the United Nations to provide the humanitarian requirements for the displaced citizens who were victimized by the terror and savagery of ISIS. On the other hand, Wayf stated that the motive behind his visit to Kerbala and Najaf was to examine the conditions of the displaced citizens and to thank the Islamic Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence, Grand Ayatullah Ali Esistani, and the people and local government of Kerbala for their warm welcoming of their fellow displaced citizens.
