Supreme Religious Authority: Our children are responsibility of parents and those in power

“Education profession is sacred,” sayyid Ahmed EsSafi, representative of the Shia Muslim Supreme Religious Authority, said in Friday’s sermon, he delivered, at the Imam Hussain Shrine on December 28, 2018.

EsSafi shed light upon education and its crucial role in the society. He described education profession as "sacred," for it is the process to build the country and render it prosperous, noting that it is the responsibility of parents, teachers, and those in power to provide good education.

He addressed the Iraqi teachers, saying: “Dear teachers and educationists, please remember that your profession is sacred—it is your ethical, customary, and national duty that we highly honor. This profession requires you to educate young people on patriotism and values appreciation and to teach them how to be helpful elements in the society.”

“Teach our children how to spend their time and how to love knowledge, for if they don’t learn that, they will be a burden on our society. Teach them how to look after their families, because family is the backbone of the society; we are family-oriented people—and we are proud of that,” EsSafi added.

He then noted that problems usually occur, and they may affect people, but good people, even in difficult conditions, continue pursuing their goals, especially if their goals aim to serve their society, adding, “It is the school’s historic, ethical, and social responsibility to educate our children and render them a great asset for their country.”

EsSafi concluded, “There are a number of complaints about school and parenting, such as students are not being taken care of, the quality of teaching is deteriorated, and children are not disciplined enough,” noting that it is the parents’ responsibility to make sure their children are disciplined as well as the teacher’s responsibility to make sure that students are educated well.
