Awda: If I have one functional leg, I will return to the front lines

Alone in a storage room in the capital Baghdad lives Muhammad Awda– a former soldier in the Iraqi Army who fought in the war against ISIS and is now unable to walk due his paralysis.

In a viral video that circulated the social media, Awda appeals to the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to treat him.

This led a delegation from Imam Hussain Holy Shrine to visit the wounded soldier in al-Sadr City in Baghdad.

Head of the Department of Care for the Families of Wounded and Martyred Soldiers of the Holy Shrine, Mr. Ahmad Rasool said “After watching the video through social media, HE Shaykh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalaey insisted to help the wounded soldier and sponsor the cost of his treatment whether inside or outside the country.”

Upon arriving at Awda’s home, the delegation assured that they are here to take care of him by sending him to a prominent hospital in Germany.

The paralyzed soldier Muhammed Awda said, “I would like to thank everyone who takes care of the wounded soldiers, especially the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain.”

“If I have one functional leg, I will return to the front lines,” Awda mentioned, expressing his eager to return to the battlefield.

It is worth mentioning that the Department of Care for the Families of Wounded and Martyred Soldiers sponsors many treatments of wounded soldiers and provides financial assistances to their families.
