Shia Muslim Authority: Necessary to coexist and have relationships with those of different religion, creed, and color

May 19, 2017. Second part of the Friday's Sermon held at the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine, the representative of the Shia Muslim Supreme Religious Authority, and the preacher of the Friday's Sermon in the holy city of Kerbela, His Eminence sheikh Abdul-Mehdi El-Kerbela’e said:

It is necessary to co-exist with people, and no one can build himself, his country, and his society without co-existing and co-operating with others. There are principles of co-existence that organize people’s life away from egocentricity in order to achieve stability and happiness.

There are ramified relationships in the society, and Islam has organized all of those relationships.

He also said that people may live with others who may have a different belief, a different language, a different color, or other differences, it is always normal and good to make relationships with them through which stability and prosperity can be achieved.

His eminence mentioned some sayings by the Ahlul-Bayet (Peace Be Upon Them) that talked about respecting others due to - at least - the origin all human beings share, which is Adam, the prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), citing a holy verse from the Noble Quran: “O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women.” Thus, people should not underestimate others because of their culture, color, belief, or any other reason; such things never privilege one over another.

He also mentioned a holy verse from the Noble Quran that says: “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another,” saying that the verse indicates the purpose of God making human beings peoples and tribes with different languages to get to know one another.

One of the instructions Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) mentioned was to treat those who we disagree with mercifully, showing them love, in addition to taking care of them, and not to be vicious to them. The Imam said (Peace Be Upon Him), “People are either your brothers in faith, or are your counterparts in creation,” added El-Kerbela’e.

People cannot dispense with other people; everyone does need another, and it is the only way to build the society and prosper. Animosity towards others never begets anything but damaging the one who harbors it. Imam Ali said to his son Imam El-Hasan (Peace Be Upon Them): "Wish for others what you like to be wished," added further El-Kerbela’e.

Some of the principles of Islam are: justice, fairness, forgiveness, and tolerance. Therefore, people should follow such principles and be away from conflicts and the desire of hurting others. God says: “O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves,” El-Kerbela’e also mentioned.
