Cornerstone laid to rebuild shrine of Rasheed al-Hajari

In the presence of a large number of Babylonians, the cornerstone for the shrine reconstruction of the great companion Rasheed al-Hajiri has been laid in Iraq’s oldest civilization.

Al-Hajiri is one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). He was killed by Ziyad ibn Abih and buried in an area between Hilla and Kufa.

"The holy shrines are given special care by the Shia Endowment for their sanctity and Islamic history significance,” said President of Shia Endowment Sayyid Alaa al-Mousawi.

Mousawi added that work on the reconstruction of the holy shrine and its expansion will begin in the near future through a special action plan.

For his part, the shrine’s private secretary, Sayyid Ahmad al-Hassani, said that the holy shrine no longer accommodates large numbers of visitors, due to cracks in the walls and decrepit building prompting for an urgent reconstruction.

Babylon embraces the largest number of holy shrines and archeological sites, which attract a large number of tourists from around the world.
