Irish Christian lady talks about what made her come to Karbala

An Irish Christian lady could not stay home watching the Arba’een pilgrims walking long distances toward the holy city of Karbala to make the Arba’een pilgrimage to Imam Hussain (Peace Be Upon Him)—she came to join the pilgrims and witness such a unique event.

Tara Okride said she just wanted to be close to the water Imam Hussain had not been able to reach.

“When I decided to come to Karbala, my husband thought I was out of my mind, but I realized the greatness of Imam Hussain (Peace Be Upon Him), which urged me to come to Karbala,” Okride added.

She also said, “When I read about the battle of Taf – in which Imam Hussain (Peace Be Upon Him) had been murdered – for many years, I felt there was a call for me to come to Karbala, although I’m not Shia.”

Okride noted that she believes in religions and people, Muslims – she feels – are close to her, and Quran is the perfect path to God.

Another reason she mentioned as to why she came to Karbala was that she wanted to know why Karbala had been attacked in 1991, according to footage she watched on the internet. She concluded, “I also wanted to convince people – through this visit – that Muslims carry the right message, but I do not think people will cognize that.”
