In commemoration of Hideous Crime – as Supreme Religious Authority described – committed by exploding Eskereyain Shrine

The shrines of the holy city of Kerbela, and the followers of the Ahlul-Bayet (Peace Be Upon Them) – all over the world – commemorated the 13th tragic anniversary of the devastation of the Eskereyain Shrine in the city of Samarra, Iraq.

In 2006, a group of terrorists committed a hideous crime by exploding the Eskereyain Shrine, where two Imams: Imam Ali Elhadi and Imam Elhasan Eleskeri (Peace Be Upon Them), are buried. By exploding the shrine, the terrorists attempted to trigger sectarian strife among the Iraqi people.

The Shia Muslim Supreme Religious Authority, in 2006, stated, “Targeting the Eskereyain Shrine is an unspeakable, shameful crime through which the terrorists wanted to tear the Iraqi people apart, so they can fulfil their malicious objectives in Iraq.”

Sayyid Afdhel EshShami – deputy Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Shrine – noted that a delegation from the Imam Hussain Shrine then responded and went to the city of Samarra and rebuilt the shrine.
